Resources & Information

The Wauwatosa Public Library was founded in 1886 and is the oldest suburban library in Milwaukee County. More than 100 years later, the library serves approximately 50,000 residents of Wauwatosa with a collection that includes newspapers and magazines, books, music and video recordings, art prints, sculpture, and audio books, as well as online subscriptions to databases on a variety of subjects.

Over 39,000 residents have a Wauwatosa Public Library card and, in 2009, the library loaned more than 895,000 items, making it the highest circulating library in Milwaukee County.

At Your Service...

The library offers a range of programs and services for adults and children. The Information Desk is staffed by professional librarians who answer more than 100,000 reference questions annually in person, by email and by phone.

Events and Happenings

Educational programs, book discussion groups, poetry readings and author/book signings are offered throughout the year for adults. The Children's Library provides story hours, classroom visits and other special events for families. On our first floor, the Firefly Gallery features shows of local artists' works. Dates and times for all library events are available on the library's online calendar, and users may also sign up to receive the electronic version of our bi-monthly hard-copy calendar.

Board of Trustees

The library is governed by a 9-member Board of Trustees. Eight members are appointed by the Mayor and one is appointed by the Superintendent of the Wauwatosa Public Schools.

Wauwatosa Public Library Foundation

We're Wired

Wireless Internet access covers the entire 52,000 square foot building and computers are available for public use in the adult and children's libraries. A copy machine and a public FAX machine are available in the adult library.

And Connected

The Wauwatosa Public Library participates in MCFLS, a county-wide organization that includes all of the municipal libraries in Milwaukee County, and makes its materials and services available to all residents of Milwaukee County. Residents of Wauwatosa can use their Wauwatosa Public Library cards at any public library in Milwaukee County.

Voting

Voter registration for Wauwatosa residents is available at the Adult Information Desk during those hours when City Hall offices are closed.
